Becoming a Member

All branches have some form of a vetting procedure. We like prospective members to attend at least three meetings/events before applying. We hold eleven meetings a year at the Amateur Radio Club rooms, 27 Galbraith Avenue, Avonhead, Christchurch on the last Thursday of each month (December excepted). This encompasses meetings, auctions, speakers etc and shoots on the Sunday following a meeting. Obviously if you are not in New Zealand then this is somewhat impractical; apply for an application form and return it with a suitable explanatory letter.

After the three attendances you then apply to the Branch Secretary for an application form. Once completed and accompanied with the appropriate payment you then get the form back to the Branch Secretary.  We then process it before forwarding it to National with our recommendation. National will then put your name forward for membership to all members in the association at either of two meetings through the year; the AGM and or the ½GM. Up until that point however you will have been already included in the mail-outs etc. You will in effect have all of the privileges of membership except being able to vote or hold office.

The membership (around a 1000), mainly collect items with military connections, however, there are also a wide range of items that our members have become specialised in. These includes: militaria of all types, swords, bayonets, knives, percussion firearms, flintlock, cowboy era and modern day firearms. Military accoutrements, military badges, buttons, medals, books, silk postcards and souvenirs of all wars. American Civil War, ammunition - old and redundant, military uniforms, hats and helmets, boots, holsters, webbing and buckles relating to all regiments.

There is something for everyone within our comprehensive collecting organisation. To learn more about membership please contact:
