In the late 1990’s early 2000’s the Branch held cannon/fun shoots were held in the Canterbury foothills. Many members and their families enjoyed shooting all things from air rifles to cannons. There was even a lollie scramble for the kids and portable loo towed up to the range for the day. The photos below were taken by Mary Biggs.
I had some cast mills grenades fitted with base plates that we fired out of a SMLE rifle and P17 grenade launcher. The target was a big sheet placed 100 meters out in the paddock and we had a competition to see who could land the grenades the closest. Once each detail was completed the kids were let loose to recover them as they often buried themselves quite deep – Graeme Barber
